Snowdon Steals the Show
Snowdon Station (Rakaia Gorge) led the way at the Annual Gore Ram Fair, in a record setting day that obtained the highest average price ($3,533.00) in history for the Perendale breed. Snowdon was at the forefront with sales of $15,500; $12,500; and $9,000 for their three rams on offer.
John Henricksen of Dannevirke, Southern Hawkes Bay was over the moon at coming out on top of a furious bidding war for Snowdon E73/20. An exceptional example of the breed in both appearance and genetic merit.
Perendale breeders were happy to continue to pay big money for stud sires given the strong commercial ram sales.
Perendale Genetics were in hot demand on a scorching Southland day with other notable sales of $10,500 and $4,200 for two Mt Guardian sires (North Canterbury).
Other top sales included - The Mitchell family of Clinton sold one ram at $6,500;
Mike McElrea of Raes Junction sold two at $3,900.00 and $3,000.00; Pip Wilson (Waikaka) Photo - Georgie, Joe & Annabel (Snowdon)
sold two at $3,500 and $3,800; Robert Gardyne of Alexandra sold one at $3,500; Vendor - John Henricksen
Newhaven Perendales (Oamaru) also sold a sire for $3,500.
A number of quality sires were purchased between $1,000 and $3,500. In total 30 quality rams were sold to keen bidders from throughout
New Zealand.
